Here you will find all the resources for the activity calendar. Note that not every single day has something on it. Below, I’ve added links, downloads of printables, additional info, etc. for the items on the calendar, and during the month, I’ll add more or updated info. It will be a continuing work in progress. For instance, if something says: Coming Soon!, that just means that I will have the entire resource ready by the date on the calendar. Or there will be times that all the dates are not on there at the beginning of the month, but more will be added throughout the month. You get the idea.

  • 1st – Quote – This is one of my favorite quotes! It’s such a beautiful thought as we head into Spring.
  • 2nd – Activity – So, in celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the American National Education Assoc. created a Read Across America day. However, since we have wonderful grandparents all over the world, let’s just call it a birthday celebration for Dr. Seuss. So, read a book together. . .maybe one of Dr. Seuss’ fun rhyming ones. . .oh wait. . .they all rhyme! Ha ha!

Check out this post from MyInspirationCorner.com for ideas on what to put in your box. Or, you could put together a “green” box with things to celebrate the planet. . .Earth Day is coming next month.
  • 7th – Long Distance IdeaIrish Fairy Tales – We have all told the familiar fairy tales from our youth. And, the Irish have a set of their own fairy tales. It might be fun to look some of these up and read them with your grandkids.
  • 9th – Explore OnlineExplore Blarney Castle & the Blarney Stone – Here are two places to explore: Blarney Castle and learn about the Blarney Stone.
  • 10thText Idea – Play a digital game of tag!
  • 11th – Joke – This one will have you laughing up and down! Ha ha!
  • 12th – CraftRainbow in a Jar – Do you want a fun and easy science experiment to do with the grandkids that’s also a craft? This activity is a crafty science experiment. It uses household items that you probably already have on hand. Check out the details from PlaydoughtoPlato’s website and create your own rainbow in a jar.
  • 13th – Quote – Here’s another great quote for Spring. It’s almost here!
  • 14th- Happy PI Day! – Joke – This joke is special just for the day. If you are not familiar with the significance of March 14th, it is sometimes recognized as Pi Day because the numerical date is 3.14 (the numerical equivalent of Pi). Go and enjoy a piece of your favorite pie!
  • 15th – Text – Does your grandchild have something that they are nervous about? This is a great text to give them a boost of confidence.
  • 16th – Play A Dance Party – Get your favorite green things on and have a dance party either in person or over Zoom! Gather together some green treats and make a St. Patrick’s Day party of it! (Here is a website with lots of green treats to get you started.)
  • 17th – Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!
  • 18th – Activity – Indoor Picnic – This one is quite self-explanatory. You may want to watch a fun rainy day movie like The Cat in the Hat.
  • 19th – Snail Mail IdeaSecret Codes – Kids love secret codes! You can find several online or you can download the one I created here. Send the kids a code to decipher some coming event – a visit, a holiday, a vacation, or something else fun.
  • 20th – Text Idea – This text is just a simple one that you can send any school day to let your grandchild know you are thinking about him/her.
  • 21st – Welcome Spring!!
  • 22nd – CraftButterfly Rings – I made an easy tutorial to show you how to make these simple rings made from pipe cleaners. You can see the Butterfly Rings tutorial here.
  • 24th – Video ChatPlay Yahtzee or Battleship with the grandkids. These are both games that adapt well to playing over video chat.
  • 25th – Joke – Share this joke with your grandchildren and see if they get the point. 😉
  • 26th – Legacy Idea – Have you ever researched games from your ancestors’ time? It’s a fun way to explore your ancestry. Google “games children played in. . .” For instance, I searched “games played by children in 1800s in England.” That is where my grandfather was from and was born in 1875. Yes, my grandfather. . .not my great-grandfather!! (He was 90 years older than me. He was 62 when my father was born, and my grandmother was 42 – how’s that for skipping a generation!). So, these were games he would have played as a child. When you find something that sounds fun, try out some of the games together!
  • 27th – Idea Post – Easter Games and Activities – Get a jump on some fun Easter activities to do with your grandchildren.
  • 28th – Joke/Riddle – A great little riddle about “water.”
  • 29th – Quote – I love the idea of coming out of darkness into light.
  • 30th – ActivityMr. Grass Head – Simply plant some grass seeds in plastic cups. It’s easy and you don’t need much of a green thumb to make the grass grow. You can even do this with your long distance grands. Have fun putting faces on the cups. And. . .don’t forget to give them “haircuts” when needed.
